Where did you take your version?
On our rather new site handle_url_tag('http://pho.to') we have not 1.7 or 1.8 versions of Photo! Editor.
The previous program has the name Photo Toolkit, it has versions 1.7 and 1.8. Then it was rebranded and now has the name Photo! Editor. It was released in versions 1.0 and 1.1.
To open your files not with Photo! Editor but with Image and Fax Viewer, make a right-click on your photo, then select "Open with", then select "Choose program...". In the appeared window select "Image and Fax Viewer" and set an option "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".

Yes, you can place the functionality of Online Photo! Editor on your own site. This will not require a lot of your server's resources, you just need to organize requests.
You should get a free key at once and either the resulting photos will be marked with out "Pho.to" watermark or your users will be redirected on our site for a while and then again returned to yours.
So to adopt a platform now you need to contact us at pr@vicman.net and we will give you more detailed instructions (sorry, but creating a final platform SDK is still in process, so we'd better explain you the procedure by e-mail).

Yes, it happened because of server crash on 16th of October. And all the albums made in 2 weeks period before this date were lost (lost as links, but physically the are still exist).
You’ve opened the page with Pho.to API and took an interest in it. But then some problems occurred. This topic is created specially for solving your problems with our API adoption .
Before asking your question, please, look through platform's SDK(handle_url_tag('http://pho.to/editor-platform/sdk%20package.zip')) carefully. If you already have experience in API adoption then help other developers - we are sure they will appreciate it.

First of all I want to explain what Photo! Editor platform is. It's a tool for your web site to provide your users with online photo editing tools. Note, that all the operations are executed online and not on your server, but on our handle_url_tag('http://pho.to') server. So you just send a request to our server and get the answer with result.
We have decided to make two types of free keys and one type of paid key.
Here are the available types of free keys:
1) the first type of free key implies that the resulting photos will be marked with "Pho.to" watermark
2) the second type of free key implies no limitations: resulting photos will not be marked with our watermark. You send a photo processing request to our server and then you redirect your user to a Pho.to web site page. On this page user may be asked to enter CAPTCHA (it will happen from time to time to protect the server from hackers). Then a user will be automatically redirected to the address, specified in your request (the web site owner determines this address).
If a paid key is used, resulting images will not be marked with "Pho.to" logo. Besides, your users will not be asked to enter CAPTCHA. The cost of paid key is calculated individually depeding on a month activity.
Each key is given for a service (web site owner). Then a web site owner will send this key in each request (so that we could recognize where the request came from). You need to apply for a key only once and then use it as long as you need.
A key can be protected by setting a list of hosts (web sites) where you allow to use your key.

Embeding the widget or 3d album on a web page is pretty simple procedure that will make you homepage, blog or social page look georgous and extraordinary.
First, you need to log in to make your widget be hosted on pho.to for more then two weeks. More - means forever, exepting vis major )
After logging in go to the widget page here - handle_url_tag('http://pho.to/widget3d/')
1) Create your own widget using photos from Flickr(TM) or from any web link. Don't forget to choose a proper template and to set a name for your widget. Then just manage the chosen photos and hit the button "Create widget".
2) So then you'll se the page with widget settings. On this page you can easily change widget size, background color and album start mode (with or without "Click to start" picture). Don't forget to click "Apply" button to save changes.
3) When you were play with album settings and click "Apply", embed code is immediately changes. So just copy it from the right side of the page and paste in your homapage code or as HTML code on a blog or social network. It will have a special look!
To access the page with album/widget options at any time after creation you need to log in into your account. After logging in you will be automatically redirected on the page with all your albums. Then go to the page with the widget options by clicking the link "album options" under a chosen album/widget. Then you already know how to make embedding.

VCW VicMan's Photo Editor is an old program that is not developed or supported any more. So the last avaliable version is 8.1 and it's free for downloading on handle_url_tag('http://www.vicman.net', 'www.vicman.net'). Sorry, but it will not be upgraded and now we will only develop handle_url_tag('http://editor.pho.to', 'Photo! Editor') product.
Your suggestins for these software are welcome!
Due to hacker attack, the Pho.to site experienced some technical problems and some pages were currently unavailable.
Forum was deleted and created again.
Photo albums and other data were recovered from a reserve copy made two weeks ago.
Accounts and albums created in the last two weeks have been lost.

VicMan Software has recently released a new version of Photo! Web Album,
