Topic: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

Noise in digital photos looks like flecks of random color in an area of an image that should consist of smooth color. It is somewhat similar to the "snowy" appearance of a bad TV signal. Digital photos shot in low light or with a high ISO setting often exhibit this undesirable noise. Digital noise is most visible in dark areas of the picture and in areas that have a similar color or tone:

To quickly and efficiently remove digital noise from your photos, use the Denoise tool in Online Photo! Editor.

First of all, go to handle_url_tag('http://editor.pho.to')/ and upload a photo that needs to be edited:

handle_img_tag('http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6081/6068902333_304321b0dd_b.jpg', false)

When the photo is uploaded, click the Denoise button (in the Correct photos section):

handle_img_tag('http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6062/6072173565_0b605161a1_m.jpg', false)

As soon as you clicked this tool, your photo is denoised. However, for best results, you can drag the sliders (they will appear above the image) to adjust the noise reduction strength and compensate for image blurring:

handle_img_tag('http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6087/6072735554_286537fe53.jpg', false)

Thanks for the tip/.

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

Grainy pictures are often the result of a low quality camera or using an ISO that is too high for the conditions while taking the picture. A substantial amount of camera movement also can cause graininess in the corner of a photograph. But there is a method using Photoshop that can help you repair your grainy pictures.
1.Use the link in the Photoshop resources section to download the Imagenomics Noiseware Professional software.
2.Open your picture in Photoshop and create a duplicate copy by selecting

Nice looking software, the improvement in picture quality is very noticeable.

My cell phone pictures are like that a lot!

It's great to know there is a way to fix it. I am an insurance adjuster so I have to take a lot of fast insurance pictures. I used my cell phone too. I am excited that there is a product to help clean them up!

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

Wow that's amazing. I just digitalize all my pictures I made back in the days. Anyway, I have a bad noise in all of them because my scanner is not the best and the pictures are 30 years old. Well, your solution is great! I will do that on all my pictures. I tried photoshop and other tools but it's hard to handle them when you are just a newbie. I wish you all the best with that tool ! Greetings from the luxury boutique hotels in Manhatten, NY!

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

There's nothing worse than taking a picture, it looking beautiful in your viewfinder and then seeing how much noise is in it after getting home!  My wife likes to take pictures and often does so at weddings.. it's usually pictures just like the one posted here that we take (night time settings) that usually come with the most

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

Wow, that actually makes a pretty big difference. My old camera used to get noise if the lighting was not the best, but it does not seem to happen too much on my new one. I think because it is  a much better camera.

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

very cool website.  I really like the contrast that you showed a picture.  I will be sure to check back often for more great information like this, there are not too many websites that give you such detail and accuracy as this one does.

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

This program just doubled up my keeper rate. I cannot even count how many times this saved a once-in-a-lifetime shot from being deleted.

Denoise also works way better than my Canon's built-in noise-reduction since there is little loss in detail after running it through the tool.

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

Cool trick man. I used the trick for my handle_url_tag('http://www.theuen.com', 'Starcraft strategy') website. I first fixed the digital noise of one of my photos I took at the release of the Wings of Liberty party. Then I removed the grainy picture that happened at night. The common problem with night time shots is that it is so blurry and the lighting is no good. I took a picture of the Terrans. It looks good. I'll post here in a second.

Re: Remove digital noise, or how to fix grainy pictures

jasonbill, you can use it for .jpeg format (just uploading image from disk), but not for .psd format.
But for using in Adobe Photoshop you can first save the .psd image in .png or .jpeg format and them denoise it with our tool.
